We're thrilled to announce Letter From Masanjia won Best Canadian Film at Satisfied Eye International Film Festival over the weekend. Thank you for the recognition! That's a wrap!
Another incredible night at SEIFF where the warmth and love was palpable and many of our filmmakers went away declaring it the best festival they'd ever attended. We are so proud that our ethos is something that resonates so profoundly with all who join us and hope that everyone has made a few friends for life.
I said yesterday (before the rancid sausage) that we're all going to die in debt and unfulfilled. But I say that with pride. Filmmaking is a crazy pursuit, with the statistics weighed heavily against us and we only do it because we truly believe in our work. It takes a brave person to pursue that course and without those people we wouldn't have had the incredible films we've been privileged to enjoy as part of the festival. So that's why SEIFF exists. To celebrate the voices, the stories, the actors, writers, directors, set builders, everyone involved in the process, you make it all worthwhile. So hell yeah we're all going to die in debt and unfulfilled. Until 2020, I applaud you all, my crazy, beautiful, dysfunctional SEIFF family (and you are all part of that family now). See you for Christmas dinner at our house! ...
Great review by the largest newspaper in Denmark, Politiken. "Why are people demonstrating on the streets of Hong Kong? If you want to know, what is behind the protesters' courage, you shall watch Leon Lee's documentary 'Letter from Masanjia'. It is not about life in Hong Kong, but about life in China, and about what could happen to you if you are not careful." ...
Tears in my eyes, thoughts in my mind. I think in this world, people who don’t know what is the real China are Chinese people living in China; but those who know the most are still Chinese people and they want to run away from their motherland...bravo à Mr Sun, un esprit tellement courageux pour combattre d’avoir la liberté! Thanks for Mr Li the director brought us such a beautiful documentary. L’esprit est immortel. R.I.P.read more
Truly one of the most powerful documentaries I have ever watched. An eye-opener that will move your heart. One man's tenacity in a nation ruled by communists. In a modern age where social media is used to show off being rich, famous, and beautiful..other people wish to have freedom and to stop persecution.read more

A powerful story, very well told. Sun Yi, what an incredible Human Being with such inner strength. This film really moved me. The former guards testimony were so touching, so glad Sun Yi made the interviews happen somehow. They were amazing pieces of redemption. 5 Stars!read more
Letter from Masanjia is a deeply touching and heroic documentary - a monument of compassion and bravery!! Whenever you need to activate your own courage, watch this film. It will open your heart and inspire you to take action despite the risks. I shed many tears - along with most in the theatre. Tears of admiration, sorrow and awe for the many layers of beauty and danger that we witnessed throughout this incredible journey. Wonderful use of animation (based on Sun Yi's skilled drawings) and risky undercover camera work - it's a miraculous film made despite great obstacles. Thank you Leon and your crew for your great love, dedication and artistry... This is truly an epic yet humble documentary - reflecting the epic yet humble nature of Sun Yi's life path.read more
